THE
COMACINA ISLAND
It is the only island on the
Lario. Inhabited since Roman times, it is today semi-deserted. A visit to
the island is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy marvellous views and peace
and quiet. You can also stop and rest in one of the most typical
restaurants of the Lario. We recommend the S. Giovanni Festivity: every
year, on the Sunday next to S. Giovanni’s day, the lake is illuminated
with big lanterns and a mass is celebrated above the ruins of the Basilica
of S. Eufemia.
THE ABBEY OF PIONA was built in the XI century. Founded
by the Cluniac monks in the Middle Ages, it is now owned by
the Cistercian monks of Casamari, who produce the well-known
liqueur "Imperial Drops ".
